Thanks to Jasmin for a copy of a birth certificate that proved John Mitchell Bollin and Mary Ann Bollin (formerly Beecroft, nee Barton) had a third child: Francis John Bollin, born 1855 in Tooting, Surrey. Jasmin also supplied John Mitchell Bollin’s death certificate which showed he died in 1857 in Upper Tooting, Streatham, Surrey. John and Mary Ann first had a daughter, Margaret Amy, born in 1852 and a son, Herbert, born in 1854 and died in 1857. Margaret Amy (aka Amy Margaret) married Walter Rowe in 1872 and had six children. I have not yet found Francis John Bollin past the 1871 Census where he was working as a gardener. Mary Ann Bollin married George Green after John Mitchell Bollin died and had at least three more children.
Hi Sue,
Jasmine gave me your web site info, I think she’s told you about me, Amy Margaret Bollin was my Great grandmother.
I have a photo of her if you would like.
She had as much bad luck with her husbands as her mother, Walter Frederick Rowe died in 1890, at the age of 39 leaving her with 6 young children.
The story passed down through the family is that Walter chased after some runaway horses, got kicked in the chest and died as a result, however on his death cert. the cause is bronchitis and exhaustion, so no help there to prove one way or another.
Amy’s two eldest boys were 15 and 17 so they had to fend for themselves.
Amy remarried to Benjamin Selway in March 1891, and in the 1891 census she has two of the girls with her, but my grandmother, Ada and her brother, Henry were put into the North Surrey District School in Penge,(a sort of orphanage/boarding school) for which my grandmother never ever forgave her mother.
Amy had another child and then Benjamin died, so she married Henry Selway, Benjamin’s brother.
The children all adored him and as a child I always heard about him, but not quite knowing who he was.
I have lots of certs etc. for all this so if you like let me have your e-mail and I will send copies.
Also Jasmine says that you have gone back beyond Charles and Amey Bollin, which is where I get stuck.
I’d dearly love some help if you have more,
Ps I have copies of wills too.
Regards from
Maureen Baker
