Continuing in the Hadfield family, I’m following a tip from cousin Helen in Brisbane who emailed me in response to my first blog post. Helen mentioned that she found a marriage of an Isaac Hadfield to Elizabeth Hutchinson at Cathedral St. Peter, Sheffield on 10 Dec 1815. Obviously this needs to be verified before that can be put into my family tree as a fact. If anyone has any information about this please add a comment to this site and we’ll see where it takes us. There were other tips in Helen’s email: one was the baptism of a William Hatfield on 8 Dec 1816 in Hartshill (which is where the 1851 Census tells us Elizabeth, Isaac’s wife, came from). Again, this needs to be confirmed but I’m grateful to Helen for her tips.

  1. Hi Sue, Well done with the site, what a great idea but where do you get the time?
I read the latest bits with great interest and checked on the IGI, both the marriage of Isaac and Elizabeth and the birth of their son William are on there. It should be straight forward to check the details. There is a great site – Sheffield Indexers. The people on there do alot of look-ups at the archives and with the records they have. I could ask if you like or perhaps have a look myself when we visit the area in the New Year. There is still a gap before Isaac was born in 1825 but maybe more children are in the records.Incidentally I have not got Isaac’s baptism so do need to go to get that.
    Have a good Christmas,
    Best wishes, Dorothy.

  2. If isaac hadfield married elizabeth huchinson in 1815, i’ve got isaacs birth as 1801? He was my 5th great grandfather. Btw john hadfield thompson (1859-1890) married kate hounam (1862-1946) had two boys ben (1887) and john hadfield (1890-1960) but 4 years after her husband died kate had my great grandmother emma (1894-1977). Any more info would be greatly appreciated thanks.

    1. Hi Diane,
Thank you for leaving your comment here. I have not confirmed Isaac Hadfield and Elizabeth Hutchinson’s marriage yet. You say you have his birth in 1801. Do you have a baptism record? I didn’t know about your great grandmother, Emma. John Hadfield Thompson was my great-grandmother’s brother. I’d love to compare more notes with you. I will email you over the weekend when I’ve had time to review any information you might find interesting.
      kind regards,
      Sue
