Thanks to cousin Carol who spent today at the Essex Record Office and came up with the following entry in the vestry minutes for Chipping Ongar. On 19th April 1805 there is noted the following: “At a Special Vestry held in the Parish of Chipping Ongar on 8th April 1805 it was Resolved that Mr William Ainsworth is an improper Person to be continued in the Offices of Constable and Beadle. Resolved that Mr Ainsworth be desired to clear his Accounts at the next Vestry.”

Will we ever find out what he did to cause this reaction?
